Electives & Pathways Explained

6th Grade

7th Grade

8th Grade

  • In 6th grade, all students will take the following FOUR electives classes:
    • Visual Arts 1
    • FACS 1
    • World Languages and Culture
    • 6th Grade PE
  • These courses allow students to get a taste for the different pathways programs
  • 6th Grade is the time to start thinking about which Capstone course you want to take in 8th grade
  • These courses also serve as prerequisite courses that are needed for 7th and 8th grade Electives
  • Students who select Band as an elective option will be removed from two of the FOUR above electives.
  • In 7th grade, students have the most choice and control over their electives
  • Students will take a total of FOUR semester long electives courses (TWO per semester)
  • It is important to make sure that you have identified which 8th grade Capstone courses you want to work towards so that you can obtain the appropriate prerequisite course work
  • During 8th grade, students will choose TWO Capstone focuses
  • Capstones courses align specifically with course pathways (see page 2-3)
  • It is important that you decide early (all the way back to 6th grade even) which Capstone you want to pursue so that you can obtain all appropriate prerequisite work prior to 8th Grade Capstones
