History

Sitting on slightly more than a 20-acre site, North Arvada was organized and began operation as North Arvada Junior High School in September 1962, relieving overcrowding at East Arvada Junior High. When opened, North Arvada was the farthest north school in the county (except Juchem Elementary) and had no paved road to the building.  Carl Zerger was the first principal. The school opened with 1,187 students in 7th, 8th and 9th grades, which was above building capacity.  In order to meet the high volume of students, a double-school session was held daily.  The building was designed for team teaching.  Additions were added to the original building in 1975, 1983, 1984, and 2000.  The current building is two stories and has 113,554 square ft. with an applied capacity of 861.
